Pakistan’s Journey to the Final

Both Pakistan and England displayed exceptional cricketing prowess throughout the T20 World Cup, navigating their way through tough group stage battles and intense knockout matches.

Upset from Zimbabwe

With the T20 World Cup 2024 just around the corner let us remind you that Pakistan who was the finalist of the T20 World Cup in 2022, lost to Zimbabwe in that World Cup. Chasing a mere 134 runs Pakistan’s strong side including Babar and Rizwan were unable to chase that target down in 20 overs.

Victory from South Africa

After the biggest upset, Pakistan had nothing to lose and they played against South Africa like a true warrior. Pakistan’s Muhammad Haris smashed the fast Bowlers like Nortje and Rabada like the bravest man on earth. Shadab’s Knock can also be remembered with a fast 20 ball fifty he took Pakistan to 180. After this match Pakistan was unstoppable. They go on to win Bangladesh as well.

A moment of Luck

T20 World Cup 2024 is just starting. Let us remind you of another magical game, because of which Pakistan reached the final. The Netherlands defeated South Africa in the group match. South Africa was unable to chase a small total against an average Dutch side. That coincidence or luck, took Pakistan to the final.

Semifinals vs. New Zealand

After such a shaky start in the World Cup, Pakistan were on a roll then. A formidable side that no one can touch. In the semi against black caps, Pakistan was just as good as they could be on their day. They defeated the black caps easily, chasing 152 in just 18 overs.

England’s Journey to the Final

Like Pakistan, England’s journey was also the bumpiest of journeys. They were at the last in their group after a defeat from Ireland in the T20 World Cup 2022. But besides that England showcased their power-hitting prowess with explosive performances from Jos Buttler, Jason Roy, and Jonny Bairstow. Their spinners, Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali, bamboozled opponents with their variations. England’s path to the final included victories over the West Indies, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka.

Upset against Ireland

Just as the T20 World Cup 2024 is about to hit the earth, remember when the Irish team defeated England’s strong team. Could you believe England, who went on to win the World Cup, was defeated by the Irish team in their first match in the World Cup campaign? Yes, this happened in a rain-affected match, but a loss is still a loss.

A 10-wicket win against India

England was just phenomenal on that day. They just outclassed India in every Department and went on to win the Semifinal by 10 wickets, chasing 170 odd.

Pakistan vs. England, The final at Melbourne

The T20 World Cup final day arrived, and anticipation soared as Pakistan and England geared up to face each other at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. The atmosphere was electric, with fans from both nations filling the stadium.

Pakistan was assigned to bat first and amassed 137 runs at an 8-wicket loss. With 38 runs, Shan Masood was Pakistan’s leading scorer. After taking three wickets for twelve runs, Sam Curran of England finally won Player of the Tournament and Man of the Match.

As a result, England’s openers came lashing out as they normally play. But Shaheen’s brilliant bowl took Alex Hales back to Pavilion. Naseem Shah’s brilliant spell in that match will always be remembered. Ball was swinging a mile and both the England Captain and vice-captain were in a spot of bother facing him.

But in the end, Ben Stroke’s maturity and patience took England over the line as the target was not that big. England became the T20 World Cup champions second time after Paul Collingwood ‘s England team won in 2010 in West Indies. The T20 World Cup 2024 is again in the USA and West Indies.

Shaheen’s Injury

Shaheen Afridi’s injury during the final match was a heartbreaking moment for Pakistan and cricket fans worldwide. The left-arm pacer had been instrumental in Pakistan’s journey to the final with his lethal bowling.

While fielding in the 12th over of England’s innings, Shaheen attempted to stop a boundary but landed awkwardly, clutching his ankle in pain. The medical team rushed to his aid, but it was evident that he wouldn’t be able to continue.

Shaheen’s absence in the crucial stages of the final proved to be a significant blow to Pakistan’s bowling attack. His injury not only impacted the final match but also raised concerns about his availability for future fixtures.

Conclusion

The T20 World Cup final between Pakistan and England will be remembered as a thrilling contest between two cricketing giants. Despite Shaheen Afridi’s injury casting a shadow over Pakistan’s performance, both teams displayed exemplary skill and sportsmanship.

As England lifted the coveted trophy, Pakistan returned home with heads held high, proud of their achievements throughout the tournament.

The T20 World Cup 2024 is starting on the 2nd of June and the arch-rival Pakistan vs. India match is on June 9 in Eisenhower Park, New York.
