T20 World Cup 2024: Strong Afghans thrashed the NewBie Uganda.

Gurbaz and Ibrahim made a 154-run opening stand. Farooqi claimed a 5-fer and Afghanistan started their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign on a winning note.

 

A brilliant partnership by Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadaran, followed by a five-wicket haul from Fazalhaq Farooqi helped Afghanistan thrash Uganda by 125 runs in their opening encounter at the T20 World Cup 2024.

 

Uganda was chasing 184, but the bowlers from Afghanistan easily outclassed them, bundling them out for 58 without even trying to make a dent. Farooqi claimed five wickets for Afghanistan, while Rashid Khan and Naveen-Ul-Haq both claimed two wickets. Earlier at Providence Stadium in Guyana, Afghanistan defeated Uganda 183/5 thanks to a record partnership of 154 between Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadaran.

 

Rashid Khan, the captain of Afghanistan, expressed satisfaction with their team’s strong start, emphasizing the importance of mindset. He praised the openers and the bowling performance. Reflecting on his captaincy, Rashid described it as a proud moment and stressed the importance of simplicity and giving his all. He noted the team’s multiple options in various play phases, highlighting the value of batters and all-rounders in T20 cricket. Rashid mentioned that their experience in the previous year’s ODI World Cup instilled the belief that they can beat any team. Looking ahead to the game against New Zealand, he emphasized the importance of keeping things simple and giving their best effort as a team.
