Azhar Mahmood should be sacked: Say’s former chief selector.

I remember how Islamabad United sacked Azhar Mahmood during the PSL 8 which is a clear indication of his inability to motivate the players,” said a former chief selector.

In an interview, former chief selector and test cricketer Salahuddin Sallu praised the efforts of PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi for involving the former cricketers in the setup. He also mentioned that Azhar Mahmood should be sacked from his position as he is “incompetent” for the role.

He also mentioned: “I remember how PSL franchise Islamabad United sacked Azhar during the PSL 8 season which is a clear indication of his inability to motivate the players or help them overcome their shortcomings.”

Regarding PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi he said: “I admire the efforts being made by PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi to bring our cricket to par with the international standards. Those who have seen the Pakistan cricket team ruling world cricket in the past or have remained attached to Pakistan Cricket in any capacity are keen to see the revival of that era.”

Following Pakistan’s premature elimination from the T20 World Cup 2024 during the group stage, Wahab Riaz, a former player, lost both his senior team management and selection committee roles.

Abdul Razzaq, a former all-round player, was also dismissed from the selection committee, and Mansoor Rana, the team manager, was also fired. But Azhar Mahmood is still involved in the setup.

Later, PCB announced a restructured selection committee that included the head coach and captain of the corresponding formats, as well as former players Mohammad Yousuf and Asad Shafiq.

The cricket body also declared that disciplinary transgressions will now be subject to a stringent zero-tolerance policy, with an emphasis on players’ participation in domestic cricket and physical conditioning.
