Amidst Political unrest Shakib Al Hasan visit to Pakistan is doubtful.

Shakib's Participation in Pakistan's Test is in doubt

Shakib Al Hasan was not only a cricketer, he was also a lawmaker of Bangladesh’s parliament. But after Haseena’s run, Bangladesh is in total unrest.

Amidst ongoing political difficulties in Bangladesh, the national squad will go to Pakistan for a two-match Test series, with the first starting on August 21 in Rawalpindi. There are concerns over former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan’s participation in the upcoming Test series. Shakib had expressed a willingness to participate in the Pakistani assignment.

Situation in Bangladesh

Furthermore, there is a blazing anger toward public figures linked with the administration in Bangladesh. Shakib Al Hasan, a Member of Parliament, had his office burned and demolished by the protestors. Moreover, the miscreants set fire to the house of former Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza.

The all-rounder is presently playing in Global T20 Canada and spent last month in the United States for the Major League Cricket season. He was anticipated to return to Bangladesh to prepare for the upcoming trip after receiving NOC from BCB until August 12. However, due to upheaval in Bangladesh, his meeting appears to be canceled, and the political party, Awami League administration, in which Shakib Al Hasan was an MP, disbanded after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left.

Doubts over Shakib’s Selection

A BCB official said “Before, it was just about whether he (Shakib Al Hasan) could come to Bangladesh and then travel to Pakistan. He’s been playing cricket, but in a format where he has to score quickly in a short time. And even though he knows how to play longer matches, there’s a concern about whether he can handle the physical demands of Test cricket.”

Director Cricket Operation In-charge Shahriar Nafees said, “He is only a cricketer now. There is a question of whether he is available for the series now and another is whether he gets picked for the tour. We will run our activity keeping these two factors in mind.”
