The former Pakistani opener, Ahmed Shehzad Opts out of the Champions Cup 2024-25. The champion’s cup will start on the 12th of September in Iqbal Stadium Faisalabad.
Ahmed Shehzad, who was the first batter to score century in every format for Pakistan has withdrawn his name from the newly introduced Champions Cup Tournament.
The Champions Cup has been recently introduced as a new tournament that will bridge the gap between international cricket and domestic cricket. Ahmed Shehzad has opted out of the Champions Cup saying PCB always makes false promises.
Ahmed Shehzad posted on X quoted as:
“With a heavy heart, I’ve decided not to play in the Domestic Cricket Champions Cup. The PCB’s favoritism, false promises, and injustice towards domestic players are unacceptable.”
Furthermore, Ahmed Shehzad also criticized the Pakistan Cricket Board for wasting a lot of money on the mentors. He also mentioned that mentors wouldn’t be doing as much as they would be receiving in terms of their salaries.
“In a time when Pakistan is struggling with inflation, poverty, and massive electricity bills, the PCB is wasting 5 million Rs on mentors for doing nothing and rewarding failed players in the current team who brought Pakistan cricket to an All-time Low. It’s even more disrespectful that the PCB claims they don’t have ‘instruments for surgery’ which is a huge disrespect for domestic players. As a Pakistani and true cricket lover, I cannot support a system that has no value for merit. I refuse to be a part of this failed setup,” Ahmed Shehzad added.
