Evin Lewis Fiery 91 Powers WI to T20 Series Victory

The third T20I between West Indies and Ireland finally saw action after two consecutive washouts. Evin Lewis announced his return to form with a blistering 91 off just 44 deliveries, setting the stage for West Indies’ commanding total of 256/5. His innings, laced with 9 fours and 6 towering sixes, completely dismantled Ireland’s bowling attack.

Shai Hope provided excellent support with a quickfire 51 from 27 balls, while Keacy Carty’s unbeaten 49 off 22 deliveries ensured West Indies posted their second-highest T20I score. The hosts’ batting onslaught included 15 sixes, leaving Ireland’s bowlers searching for answers on a tough night in the field.

Humphreys’ Brave Bowling Effort Amid Carnage

While most Irish bowlers struggled, Matthew Humphreys emerged as the lone warrior with an exceptional spell of 2/16 from his 4 overs. The left-arm spinner displayed remarkable control when every other bowler was being hammered around the park. His disciplined lines and clever variations stood out in an innings where the opposition scored at 12.8 runs per over.

Humphreys’ performance included the crucial wickets of Brandon King and Roston Chase, temporarily slowing West Indies’ charge. His economy rate of just 4.00 was extraordinary given the circumstances, proving his potential as a future star for Ireland.

Ireland’s Valiant But Doomed Chase

Ireland began their mammoth chase positively with Ross Adair (48 off 36) and Harry Tector (38 off 25) showing intent. However, the required rate kept climbing as West Indies’ bowlers maintained pressure. Akeal Hosein’s 3/27 broke the backbone of Ireland’s middle order, while Jason Holder (2/49) and Roston Chase (1/16) provided crucial breakthroughs.

Mark Adair’s entertaining 31* off 14 balls provided late fireworks, but the target proved too steep. Ireland finished at 194/7, falling 62 runs short in what was ultimately a one-sided contest.

Looking Ahead For Both Teams

This victory gives West Indies valuable momentum as they prepare for upcoming T20 challenges. For Ireland, while the result was disappointing, Humphreys’ bowling and Adair’s batting were positive takeaways. The series, though shortened by rain, provided both teams with important match practice ahead of their next international commitments.
