Shadab Khan Set for Surgery, Pakistan Eyeing New T20 Vice-Captain

Shadab Khan injury

Pakistan’s white-ball all-rounder Shadab Khan is set to miss three months of international cricket. The 26-year-old will soon travel to the United Kingdom for shoulder surgery, as advised by medical experts after long-standing discomfort.

Surgery Confirmed, T20 Series Missed

The decision to undergo surgery means Shadab will miss Pakistan’s T20I series against Bangladesh, starting July 20 in Dhaka. He last featured for Pakistan during the  T20I vs Bangladesh in Lahore but hasn’t played since due to shoulder issues. With the surgery scheduled, Shadab will not only miss the three-match series but is also uncertain for any upcoming white-ball fixtures in the near term.

Squad Changes and Vice-Captaincy Talk

Pakistan’s squad for the Bangladesh tour is expected to be revealed shortly. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has yet to officially announce the squad, but it is expected that captain Salman Ali Agha and head coach Mike Hesson will prioritize younger talent for the series. Reports indicate a possible debut for left-arm spinner Sufiyan Muqeem, who may fill the spin void.

With Shadab out, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) must also appoint a new T20 vice-captain. Candidates could include Muhammad Haris, Fakhar Zaman, or Haris Rauf, though no official confirmation has been made yet.

Camp in Karachi, Key Names Absent

The national training camp for the Bangladesh series begins July 7 in Karachi. However, senior players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan will not attend, as their return dates remain unconfirmed. Pakistan are set to fly out on July 16, with all three matches taking place at Shere-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

Crucial Loss Ahead of Busy Season

Shadab’s injury is a major setback, considering his all-round role in the T20 format. His controlled leg-spin and middle-order hitting have often provided Pakistan balance in limited-overs cricket. With important tours and tournaments lined up, his rehabilitation and return will be closely monitored by both fans and selectors.
