Imad Wasim guides Antigua Falcons to CPL triumph

Imad Wasim guides Antigua Falcons to CPL triumph. Imad’s leadership and all-round skills powered Antigua and Barbuda Falcons to a narrow eight-run victory over Trinbago Knight Riders in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound.

Falcons build steady total

Batting first, the Falcons reached 167 for 6 in 20 overs. Their innings was revived by a crucial sixth-wicket stand between skipper Imad Wasim and Fabian Allen. The pair added 69 runs, which shifted momentum back to the hosts. Allen played a blazing knock of 45 off just 20 balls, smashing three boundaries and three sixes. Imad contributed a composed 39 from 27 deliveries, including one four and two sixes. Young opener Jewel Andrew chipped in with 22 runs, but the rest of the batting unit faltered against disciplined bowling.

For the Knight Riders, spinner Usman Tariq impressed with figures of 2 for 37, while Nathan Edward also struck twice. Left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir and all-rounder Akeal Hosein picked up one wicket apiece to keep the Falcons in check.

Munro and Pollard shine in chase

Chasing 168, Trinbago Knight Riders came close but fell short at 159 for 6 in their 20 overs. Colin Munro provided an explosive start with 44 off only 18 balls, smashing eight boundaries and a six. Veteran Kieron Pollard tried to finish the job with an unbeaten 43 off 28 balls, hitting three fours and four towering sixes. Keacy Carty also added 35 runs, but lack of support from the middle order left the chase incomplete.

Obed McCoy was the star with the ball, claiming 4 wickets for 39 runs to derail the Knight Riders’ momentum. Rahkeem Cornwall and Shakib Al Hasan played their part as well, each grabbing two wickets, ensuring the Falcons held on for a thrilling victory.

Falcons climb to the top

With this win, the Imad Wasim-led Falcons now sit at the top of the CPL 2025 points table. After four matches, they have secured two victories, one defeat, and one no result, collecting five points in total. However, their net run rate stands at -0.535, which could play a role later in the tournament.

The Falcons’ strong start, powered by Imad Wasim’s calm leadership and timely performances, makes them one of the early contenders for the CPL 2025 title.
