Baby AB Joins the Yellow Army: Dewald Brevis Replaces Injured Gurjapneet Singh at CSK

In one of the most talked-about mid-season developments of IPL 2025, Chennai Super Kings have signed South African rising star Dewald Brevis known as Baby AB as a replacement for Gurjapneet Singh, who has been ruled out due to an undisclosed injury. The announcement, made by the official IPL handle, has sparked both excitement and questions from fans and analysts alike.

Brevis, fondly known as Baby AB for his uncanny resemblance to AB de Villiers in playing style, was a part of the Mumbai Indians setup in previous seasons. Surprisingly, he went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, leaving fans puzzled. However, CSK’s decision to rope him in during the mid-phase of the tournament could turn out to be a masterstroke. The 20-year-old right-hander made waves in the U-19 World Cup and has since been a crowd favorite in leagues around the world. His ability to play 360-degree shots and shift gears effortlessly makes him a dangerous batter, especially in the middle overs.

What’s causing a stir on social media, though, is the lack of clarity around Gurjapneet Singh’s injury. Cricket analyst Gurkirat Singh Gill raised concerns about the transparency of the replacement process, suggesting that the IPL Governing Council should at least disclose the nature of the injury. Some fans believe this opens the door to tactical replacements, undermining the integrity of the tournament.

That said, CSK has a history of turning mid-season additions into match-winners. As journalist Sharon Solomon pointed out, “Almost a decade ago, when CSK made a mid-season signing, they went on to lift the IPL trophy.” Could lightning strike twice? As the business end of the tournament approaches, this signing brings fresh energy and new possibilities to the CSK squad. All eyes will now be on Brevis to see if he can light up the IPL stage in yellow just as he once did in blue.

For Chennai fans, it’s a new chapter. For Brevis, it’s redemption. And for the IPL, it’s drama — just the way fans love it.
