IND vs ENG Day 2: Root Century and Bumrah fifer at Lords

IND vs ENG Day 2: Root Hits Ton, Bumrah Strikes Back

The third Test between India and England at Lord’s has lived up to expectations. At stumps on Day 2, India were 145/3 in reply to England’s 387 all out. Joe Root starred with a magnificent century, while Jasprit Bumrah roared back with a stunning five-wicket haul. IND vs ENG Day 2 was a mix of batting and bowling display from both sides.

Root Anchors England with Gritty 104

Former England captain Joe Root played a masterclass knock of 104 runs off 199 balls. His calm and composed innings helped England recover after early setbacks. Root struck 10 boundaries and kept the scoreboard moving on a tricky pitch. His dismissal by Bumrah brought an end to a near-flawless innings.

Root received good support from Ben Stokes (44 off 110) and Jamie Smith (51 off 56), who attacked after Root’s dismissal. The lower order chipped in with handy runs, especially Brydon Carse, who scored a valuable 56.

Bumrah’s Five-Wicket Haul Turns the Tide

Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler for India, finishing with 5 wickets. He removed the core of England’s batting—Root, Brook, Stokes, Archer, and Woakes. His control and reverse swing under cloudy skies were a treat for fans. Mohammed Siraj also picked up two wickets, removing Carse and Smith at crucial stages. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ravindra Jadeja also chipped in with key dismissals.

England ended their innings at 387 in 112.3 overs. Extras contributed a massive 31 runs, highlighting India’s occasional indiscipline.

India Fight Back With Steady Batting

In response, India began shakily, losing Yashasvi Jaiswal for 13 off just 8 balls. Jaiswal was caught by Harry Brook off Jofra Archer’s bowling. Karun Nair (40 off 62) played a fluent knock before falling to Ben Stokes, caught by Root. Shubman Gill, the captain, was dismissed for 16 after edging to Jamie Smith off Chris Woakes.

At stumps, KL Rahul was holding firm at 53* off 113 balls with 5 boundaries. He was joined by Rishabh Pant (19* off 33), who looked confident in his strokeplay. India trail by 242 runs with 7 wickets remaining, ending the day at 145/3 after 43 overs.
