Pakistani Footballer Amanullah Baloch Disappears During Norway Youth Tournament
A young Pakistani footballer, Amanullah Rauf Baloch, has been reported missing in Oslo, Norway, after traveling with his team to participate in the prestigious Norway Cup 2025, one of the world’s largest international youth football tournaments.
Amanullah, who hails from the Lyari area of Karachi, was part of the Muslim Hands team, representing Pakistan at the global youth event. Reports state that he did not take part in any match during the tournament and went missing on the opening day.
According to the team’s management, Amanullah left the venue during a reception ceremony while he was talking on the phone. He was last seen getting into a taxi outside the event. Since then, there has been no contact with him.
Local Authorities Step In
The case has now been formally handed over to Norwegian police and Pakistan’s Embassy in Oslo. Officials are currently conducting investigations to locate Amanullah. The team management has also informed that they are in regular communication with the local authorities.
Despite repeated attempts, no contact has been established with Amanullah’s family. As per sources, his family has so far refused to comment on the matter.
Another Blow to Pakistan Sports Image Abroad
This incident marks the second such case within two months involving Pakistani athletes going missing abroad. Earlier, two athletes from Punjab reportedly vanished in Germany during the World University Games, sparking criticism over poor supervision and lack of exit controls.
Such repeated cases of players disappearing during international tours raise serious concerns regarding team management, background checks, and the responsibilities of the sports authorities.
Pakistan’s On-Field Performance Remains Exceptional
Despite this unfortunate development, the Pakistan under-15 team performed exceptionally well in the tournament. Another Pakistani team, Better Future Pakistan, won the Norway Cup U-15 title after a 2-0 victory over Norwegian side Gjovik Lyn in a competitive final.
Pakistani players displayed outstanding teamwork, discipline, and control throughout the game. Ahmed Ali and Owais scored the decisive goals, sealing Pakistan’s unbeaten run in the competition.
Clean Play Award for Pakistan
In addition to the championship, the Pakistan youth team also bagged the Fair Play Award, receiving 16 Green Fair Play Cards — a record achievement reflecting their sportsmanship and ethical conduct on the field.
Their journey to the final was dominant. On August 1, they defeated Greaker IF 4-2 in a thrilling encounter, followed by a commanding 4-1 win over Gjellerasen in the playoff stages. The team concluded the tournament with nine consecutive wins, making it one of their best performances on international soil.
A Moment of Pride Overshadowed
While the football achievements brought a moment of national pride, Amanullah Baloch’s disappearance has sadly overshadowed the celebrations. The matter highlights the need for better monitoring of young athletes abroad and improved team supervision policies.
The sports community, officials, and the general public are anxiously awaiting updates on Amanullah’s whereabouts. It is hoped that he will be found safe and sound soon.
Note: Anyone with information about Amanullah’s location is requested to contact local police or the Pakistan Embassy in Norway.
