Amir joins Pakistan’s elite 400-wicket club
Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has reached a remarkable career landmark in T20 cricket. The left-arm fast bowler completed 400 wickets in the shortest format, becoming the second Pakistani to achieve the feat. Amir reached the milestone while representing Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025. He dismissed Fabian Allen to secure his 400th scalp, a moment that underlined his longevity and consistency in franchise and international cricket.
Only second Pakistani to the landmark
Amir is now only the second Pakistani bowler to claim 400 wickets in T20 cricket. The first to do so was veteran fast bowler Wahab Riaz, who has 413 wickets from 348 matches at an economy rate of 7.54. Amir, meanwhile, has played 343 matches so far in T20 cricket. His bowling average stands at 22.54, while his economy rate is a tidy 7.33.
A career of ups and downs
The left-arm pacer has seen many highs and lows during his cricket journey. Once hailed as one of the most talented new-ball bowlers of his generation, Amir’s international career faced interruptions. However, he managed to make a strong comeback, particularly in franchise leagues across the globe. After the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, Amir announced his retirement from international cricket again. Despite stepping away from the national team, his performances in domestic and franchise leagues continue to draw attention.
Contribution to Pakistan cricket
Amir has played a crucial role for Pakistan in T20 internationals. His ability to swing the new ball and bowl effective yorkers at the death made him a valuable asset. Pakistan fans fondly remember his impact in the 2016 Asia Cup and the 2017 Champions Trophy final, where his spell against India was decisive. Even though his international appearances are now limited, his achievement of 400 wickets in T20 cricket reflects his dedication and skill.
Looking ahead
At 33, Amir still has several seasons of franchise cricket left in him. His milestone not only places him among Pakistan’s leading T20 bowlers but also highlights his resilience in the game. With Wahab Riaz already retired from international formats, Amir’s record adds to Pakistan’s proud tradition of producing world-class fast bowlers.
