Nissanka’s century Helps Sri Lanka Take Lead in Second Test

Pathum Nissanka scored a brilliant century to put Sri Lanka in a strong position against Bangladesh. He remained unbeaten on 146 at stumps on Day 2 of the second Test in Colombo. Thanks to his innings, Sri Lanka reached 290/2, leading Bangladesh by 43 runs. Nissanka’s century became the highlight of the second day as Sri Lanka dominated the batting.

Bangladesh Collapse Early After Winning Toss

Bangladesh won the toss and chose to bat first on a dry Colombo surface. However, their batters struggled to build partnerships and were bowled out for just 247 runs. None of the batters reached a half-century, despite starting steadily in the morning session. Sri Lanka’s bowlers kept it tight, especially Prabath Jayasuriya and Asitha Fernando.

Nissanka Anchors Sri Lankan Reply Strongly

Pathum Nissanka came in early after the fall of Dimuth Karunaratne. He batted with great control and composure, hitting 18 boundaries in his unbeaten 146 runs. Nissanka paced his innings well, rotating strike and punishing loose deliveries. His strike rate of 61.34 reflects his smart shot selection on a slow track.

Solid Support from Chandimal and Udara

Lahiru Udara gave Sri Lanka a steady start with a 40-run knock from 65 balls. He partnered well with Nissanka before getting out to Taijul Islam. Then, Dinesh Chandimal joined Nissanka and played a composed knock of 93.Their 182-run partnership set the base for Sri Lanka’s first-innings lead.

Bangladesh’s Bowlers Struggle for Control

Taijul Islam bowled the bulk of the overs, finishing Day 2 with 1/90 from 32 overs. Nayeem Hasan got Chandimal’s wicket late in the day, but Bangladesh lacked consistency overall. Only two wickets fell during the entire day, showing how well Sri Lanka batted.

What to Expect on Day 3

Sri Lanka will aim to extend their lead and bat Bangladesh out of the game. Nissanka is well set for a double hundred and looks in great touch. Bangladesh must bowl tighter and break the current partnership early in the morning. Day 3 could decide the course of the match and possibly the series.
