T20 World Cup 2024: 77 all out, the Sri Lankans choked by South Africa.

Sri Lanka vs South Africa T20 World Cup 2024

South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets to kick start their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

Despite losing four wickets, the South Africans successfully chased down the score. In the 17th over, the Proteas attempted to reach the target of 78. With 20 off 27, Quinton de Kock led South Africa in scoring. On 19*, Heinrich Klassen was still undefeated.

Earlier, after the Lions chose to bat first, South Africa bowled Sri Lanka out for just 77 runs in their kick off campaign at the T20 World Cup 2024.

The formidable South African bowling arsenal caused Sri Lanka’s top order to collapse in a miserable batting display at their first match in the T20 World Cup 2024. Pathum Nissanka, who batted first for just three runs in the innings, was cheaply dismissed by Heinrich Klaasen off Ottneil Baartman Baartman.

Despite showing some resiliency by scoring 19 runs off of 30 balls, Anrich Nortje dismissed Kusal Mendis. Kamindu Mendis had difficulty as well, making just 11 runs.

Sadeera Samarawickrama and captain Wanindu Hasaranga both left the game without scoring. Before losing to Nortje, Charith Asalanka could only muster six runs, placing the team in a terrible situation.

With an undefeated sixteen that included two sixes, Angelo Mathews offered some optimism, but not enough to save the innings. Even Dasun Shanaka’s nine runs were insufficient.

Nortje achieved remarkable results on 4/7, but Keshav Maharaj obtained 2/22. Kagiso Rabada concluded with 2/21 figures.
