ICC MEN’s T20 World Cup 2024, Squads Announcement

ICC Men's T20 World Cup

The ICC MEN’s T20 World Cup 2024 is just around the corner. The Mega event is going to be played in the USA and West Indies this year. The Championship is going to be held from June 1 to June 29. The arch-rivals Pakistan and India will play in New York on the 9th of June 2024. The Match will be played at 7:30 Pakistan Standard Time and 8 PM Indian Standard Time.

First Team to announce the squad for ICC MEN’s T20 World Cup 2024

New Zealand became the first team to announce their squad for the ICC MEN’s T20 World Cup 2024. Announcing a squad so early in the peace defines one’s confidence and planning they have put in for the mega event. On April 29, 2024, New Zealand announced their squad. On the same day, they also revealed their kit for the World Cup 2024.

All Squads for the ICC MEN’s T20 World Cup 2024

All the squads for the ICC MEN’s T20 World Cup 2024 are listed below.

New Zealand Squad

Kane Williamson (c), Finn Allen, Trent Boult, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee.

Reserve: Ben Sears

The absence of all-rounder Adam Milne (ankle) and key pacer Kyle Jamieson (back) from the tournament due to injuries, as well as the absence of Will O’Rourke, Tom Latham, Tim Seifert, and Will Young from the squad despite their recent strong performances against the white ball, did not come as a major surprise.

Williamson will be participating in his sixth T20 World Cup and his fourth as captain. Boult will be making his fifth appearance, and Southee will be making his seventh as the Kiwis look to win their first title in the game’s shortest international format.

England squad

Jos Buttler (c), Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, Mark Wood, Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonathan Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett.

The Surprise factor in this squad is the inclusion of fast-bowling sensation Jofra Archer. He is making a comeback in international cricket after more than a year now.

The same squad has been selected for the four-match T20I series against Pakistan, which started last night. All the players who were part of the Indian Premier League returned on time for the T20I series against Babar Azam’s men.

England will fly to the Caribbean on 31 May ahead of their first game against Scotland in Barbados on 4 June. They are drawn in Group B at the ICC MEN’s T20 World Cup 2024 alongside Australia, Namibia, Scotland, and Oman.

India’s Squad

Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohamad. Siraj.

Reserves: Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Avesh Khan

The good sign was the return of Pant to international cricket for the first time since a near-fatal accident in December 2022 that kept him on the sidelines for more than a year.

A big name missing from India’s list for the ICC MEN’s T20 World Cup 2024, is that KL Rahul, who was part of India’s last two T20 World Cup campaigns.

Canada Squad

Canada has selected an experienced team for the ICC MEN’s T20 World Cup 2024 next month, and all-rounder Saad Bin Zafar has been named captain.

Canada has been placed in Group A with co-hosts USA, India, Pakistan, and Ireland. This will be the North American team’s first time competing in the T20 World Cup.

Australia Squad

Mitchell Marsh (c), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazelwood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell.

Reserves: Jake Fraser-McGurk, Matt Short

In a shocking revelation of their roster for the four-week competition in the West Indies and the USA, the 2021 T20 World Cup champions left out veteran batter Steve Smith, rising gun Jake Fraser-McGurk, seasoned seamer Jason Behrendorff, and all-rounder Matt Short.

Bangladesh’s Squad

Najmul Hossain Shanto (c), Taskin Ahmed, Litton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Shakib Al Hasan, Tawhid Hridoy, Mahmud Ullah Riyad, Jaker Ali Anik, Tanvir Islam, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Tanzim Hasan Sakib.

Reserves: Afif Hossain, Hasan Mahmud

The 15-player Bangladeshi squad for the ICC MEN’s T20 World Cup 2024 did not include any significant surprises; vibrant, fast Tanzim Hasan Sakib was selected after making two outings against Zimbabwe.

Left-arm quick Shoriful Islam was also picked by the selectors, despite the 22-year-old being rested for the final two games against Zimbabwe. As backups, Hasan Mahmud and Afif Hossain Dhrubo will go to the competition.

For the competition next month, Bangladesh has been put into Group D with South Africa, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, and Nepal. Their first match is scheduled for June 7 in Dallas against Sri Lanka.

Ireland Squad

Paul Stirling (c), Mark Adair, Ross Adair, Andrew Balbirnie, Curtis Campher, Gareth Delany, George Dockrell, Graham Hume, Josh Little, Barry McCarthy, Neil Rock, Harry Tector, Lorcan Tucker, Ben White, Craig Young.

In the ICC MEN’s T20 World Cup 2024, Ireland will be led by opener Paul Stirling.

Three Twenty20 International squads for Ireland’s forthcoming cricket matches were announced. These consist of the ICC MEN’s T20 World Cup 2024, the triangular series with Scotland and Netherlands, and the T20I series against Pakistan.

From these three events, the Pak vs. Ire series has recently concluded in which Ireland has given a strong statement by beating Pakistan in the first T20I.

Namibia Squad

Gerhard Erasmus (c), Zane Green, Tangeni Lungameni, Niko Davin, JJ Smit, Jan Frylinck, JP Kotze, David Wiese, Bernard Scholtz, Malan Kruger, PD Blignaut, Michael Van Lingen, Dylan Leicher, Ruben Trumpelmann, Jack Brassell, Ben Shikongo.

Along with veteran Pikky Ya France and rookie batsman Shawn Fouche, all-rounder Nicol Loftie-Eaton is the biggest exclusion from Namibia’s 15-man team. Twelve of the fifteen players who participated in that outstanding run during qualifying have again been selected.

Loftie-Eaton made headlines in February when he hit the fastest T20I century in men’s cricket history against Nepal in 33 balls, but the 23-year-old is not included in the USA and West Indies co-host competition in June.

Afghanistan Squad

Rashid Khan (c), Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Azmatullah Omarzai, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Ishaq, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Karim Janat, Nangyal Kharoti, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Fareed Ahmad Malik.

Rashid Khan will captain Afghanistan’s 15-man squad for the ICC MEN’s T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the USA and the West Indies in June of this year.

In comparison to the 2022 edition, Afghanistan’s lineup has undergone some changes. Karim Janat, Mohammad Ishaq, and Noor Ahmad are all named in the team.

Nevertheless, Hashmatullah Shahidi, who captained Afghanistan at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, was absent from the team; his final Twenty20 International appearance occurred in 2022.

West Indies Squad

Rovman Powell (c), Alzarri Joseph, Johnson Charles, Brandon King, Gudakesh Motie, Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd, Roston Chase, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph.

Shamar Joseph, who made an impression in his Test debut series against Australia earlier this year, has been selected for the T20 World Cup group and will soon make his T20I debut.

Shimron Hetmyer returns for the T20I series against Australia after being out. Playing the role of finisher, he has been in fantastic form for the Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing Indian Premier League, amassing 83 runs at a strike rate of 184.44 in four innings.

Reserves: Innocent Mwebaze, Ronald Lutaaya

Although Uganda is participating in its first senior men’s World Cup of any kind, the country has previously been represented in an international competition with the now-defunct East Africa squad, which competed in the 1975 Cricket World Cup. The two Ugandan players on the team, which also included players from Tanzania, Kenya, and Zambia, were Samuel Walusimbi and John Nagenda.

Uganda’s T20 World Cup campaign kicks off in Guyana on June 3 against Afghanistan.

The USA lineup for the ICC MEN’s T20 World Cup 2024 includes Corey Anderson, a former player from New Zealand and finalist in the 2015 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

The USA team, captained by 31-year-old wicket-keeper batsman Monank Patel, includes some well-known players in addition to standout performers from their recent T20I series victory (4–0) over Canada.

Netherlands Squad

Star all-around player Bas de Leede is one of the essential players for a Dutch team that will take on South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal in the T20 World Cup group stages. Wicket-keeper batter Scott Edwards will captain the Netherlands once again.

At the last T20 World Cup, the Netherlands stunned South Africa in one of two memorable triumphs during the Super 12 round of the competition. The European team will be looking to build on that performance in their opening encounter against Nepal on June 4 at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

Hasaranga will captain Sri Lanka in the ICC MEN’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States. He was selected the team’s captain in December of last year. His deputy will be Charith Asalanka, a middle-order hitter.

After being out for almost three years, veteran Angelo Mathews returned to the T20I setup earlier this year in January. Sri Lanka has relied on his experience. This will be Mathews’ sixth appearance in the T20 World Cup; in 2014, he was a part of Sri Lanka’s winning team.

South Africa’s Squad

Aiden Markram (c), Ottniel Baartman, Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Bjorn Fortuin, Reeza Hendricks, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, David Miller, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tabraiz Shamsi, Tristan Stubbs.

The Proteas have announced their squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the West Indies, and Aiden Markram, who was selected the T20I captain, will captain South Africa for the first time in an ICC competition.

Anrich Nortje and Quinton de Kock, who were just left off of Cricket South Africa’s core contract list, are two prominent additions. Due to a back condition, Nortje has not been able to play for his country since September 2023. Meanwhile, De Kock, who had previously said goodbye to Test cricket in 2022, declared his retirement from ODIs following the 2023 Cricket World Cup.

Papua New Guinea Squad

Pakistan’s Squad

Pakistan’s Squad for the ICC MEN’s T20 World Cup 2024 is yet to be announced within the next 2 days. Pakistan is playing an away series with England. The plan recently was to announce the squad after the first T20I against England. But rain played a part and the first T20I was abandoned due to rain.

Oman Squad

Aqib Ilyas (c), Zeeshan Maqsood, Kashyap Prajapati, Pratik Athavale, Ayaan Khan, Shoaib Khan, Mohammad Nadeem, Naseem Khushi, Mehran Khan, Bilal Khan, Rafiullah, Kaleemullah, Fayyaz Butt, Shakeel Ahmad, Khalid Kail.

Eight members of the 2021 T20 World Cup squad are in for the 2024 push, making up the majority of the team that advanced to the final of the most recent ACC Premier Cup. The lineup for bowling will once again be led by left-arm yorker specialist Bilal Khan, who will be supported with the ball by left-arm orthodox Shakeel Ahmad and left-arm specialists Kaleemullah and Fayyaz Butt. Shakeel, although being relatively new to the team, joins Aqib and Zeeshan, two all-rounders, in Oman’s spin unit.

At the T20 World Cup, Nepal is led by Rohit Paudel. They play their first game against The Netherlands in Texas on June 4.

The players were chosen based on their performance in both ACC Premier Cup games in Oman and matches against a West Indies A team that was recently on tour in Kirtipur. There were no major shocks in the selection.

Up to May 25th, all teams may make squad modifications for ICC MEN’s T20 World Cup 2024, after that, the ICC Event Technical Committee must approve any changes.
