PCB Stands Firm on Hosting ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan

On Monday, November 18, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed the country’s pledge to hosting the ICC Champions Trophy solely in 2025. Speaking to the media in Lahore, Naqvi addressed concerns voiced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which recently announced its decision not to send a team to Pakistan for the prestigious event. He asked India to direct discussions to settle the issue, while categorically rejecting the concept of a hybrid hosting arrangement.

“If India has any concerns about sending their team to Pakistan, they must talk to us, and we will remove them,” said Naqvi. “I don’t think there is any reason for India not to come to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy.”

Pakistan Rejects Hybrid Model for ICC Champions Trophy

Naqvi highlighted that Pakistan’s dignity and respect are unwavering, repeating the PCB’s opposition to hosting the ICC Champions Trophy in a hybrid format, as proposed by the BCCI. “The Champions Trophy will be held only in our country; we will not accept a hybrid concept. “If India has any problems, they can come to us, and we will resolve them,” he said. The PCB is currently waiting for the International Cricket Council (ICC) to finalize and release the tournament schedule.

Teams Ready to Play in Pakistan for ICC Champions Trophy

The PCB Chair further stated that all other participating teams are ready to come to Pakistan for the 50-over tournament. “Every other team that has qualified for the ICC Champions Trophy is prepared to participate. “No one is concerned,” Naqvi remarked, dismissing the notion of widespread reluctance among other nations.

When asked about the potential of withdrawing from the event if the ICC opts for a hybrid hosting agreement, Naqvi remained strong. “Pakistan’s respect comes first and foremost. Rest certain, you’ll see what happens. Our view is extremely clear, as we have previously stated.”

ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Schedule and Venues

The ICC Champions Trophy, which was last held in England in 2017, will return from February 19 to March 9, 2025. According to preliminary preparations, India’s matches will be hosted in Lahore, with Karachi and Rawalpindi being named as crucial locations.

The PCB remains dedicated to guaranteeing the tournament’s success exclusively within Pakistan, prioritizing its reputation as a safe and capable host for international cricket. With the majority of teams on board, it is now up to India to engage in negotiation and lead the path for a resolution.
